This statement describes how and when Wikimedia collects, uses, and shares the information we receive from survey participants.

This survey consists of a live interview. The interview will be conducted via Google Hangouts; for information about Google’s handling of your data, please see their Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. The interview will be recorded using QuickTime recording software and stored locally on Wikimedia Foundation computers.

We appreciate your time and assistance! This survey will allow us to understand the long-term impact of grants.

What Information We Collect

This survey will collect your free-form responses to interview questions.

By answering the free-form response questions, you agree that we may record your answers, and agree to donate them to the public domain under the terms of Creative Commons Zero 1.0 (full text available at

Information Sharing and Disclosure

Data gathered in the course of this study will be retained indefinitely, and some results will be shared publicly. The raw collected data will only be shared with the Wikimedia Foundation staff and contractors who need to process this information and are subject to non-disclosure obligations, with the exception of the circumstances described below.

Your interview will be recorded for the purposes of review by Wikimedia Foundation staff and contractors, in order to produce accurate case studies about grant impacts. These recordings will be deleted after six months. Some interviews will be used to generate case studies, which will be posted publicly on and remain publicly available indefinitely. If your interview is chosen for such a case study, you will be given the opportunity to review and edit the case study before it is shared publicly.

We may disclose any collected information when required by law, when we have your permission, when needed to protect our rights, privacy, safety, users, or the general public, and when necessary to enforce our Terms of Use or any other Wikimedia policy.

By participating in this study, you agree to the transfer, storage, and use of the collected information to the United States and other places as may be necessary to carry out the purposes and objectives discussed above. You also consent to the transfer of information from the U.S. to other countries, which may have different or less stringent data protection laws than your country, in order to carry out the aforementioned purposes and objectives.
