Policy talk:Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Candidate Review Process

From Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki

Policy introduced just days before two candidates removed from elections

The community needs answers as to why this new process was introduced just two days before two candidates were removed from the 2025 elections. Was this policy introduced as a result of the current Board attempting to justify why it would be removing these two candidates? The community needs answers. FYI, the more active conversations regarding the implications of this policy are happening here: meta:Talk:Wikimedia_Foundation_Board_noticeboard/October_2025_update. - Fuzheado (talk) 13:33, 7 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. For me, this imposition by the board was neither transparent nor appropriate, nor did it allow the community to review and express their opinions, as well as its legitimacy. Since the board is involved in organizing the elections, a minimum of time would be expected to avoid appearing as an outlandish justification for a controversial candidate removal. I have compiled a series of events surrounding what is being discussed, as well as open questions that need to be discussed in response to these events at: m:Learning from events and reactions surrounding the removal of Lane Rasberry from the 2025 Board Elections candidate shortlist. I had help from a few others to copy-edit and verify details. Hexatekin (talk) 14:34, 9 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
The whole thing makes me wonder whether they invented these new rules specifically to remove these two candidates. Hurluberlue (talk) 16:04, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
