The meeting was called to order at 9:03 AM PDT. The Secretary confirmed the presence of a quorum. The Vice Chair welcomed everyone and reviewed the agenda.
Community Health Statement
The Board discussed a proposed statement on community health, revised from the version discussed in the April 21 meeting. Lisa facilitated the discussion, with each trustee and some key staff members given an opportunity to share their reactions and recommendations for how to proceed. There was general agreement about much of the statement, but trustees shared some concerns with some particular points and language used. At the same time, trustees expressed concern that many rounds of suggested edits had made the statement less clear. Staff explained the potential benefits of a statement from the Board, and the ways it would help the Foundation be effective in its trust and safety work to work with communities, protect vulnerable people in our movement, and ensure overall community health.
The Board decided to take more time to revise the statement, and discuss it again at its planned meeting on May 22.
