Description
English: View due east towards Cairn's Mill from the embankment of the single-lane road leading to Fogo.

Cairn's Mill resides within the boundaries of Fogo parish.
This photograph was taken in autumn 1959.
At far left: the mill erected on the near edge of the Blackadder river valley, the Haugh (valley meadows) spread out behind. In line of sight an animal shelter built on the lower perimeter of a hillside field.
Higher up the hillside Cairn's Mill cottage, beset with chimney stacks, two windows, and a front porch; a few yards behind a woodland plantation continuing into the distance.
Yet a little further uphill the (lower) west range of the steadings with two windows. The slightly taller and elongated east range of the steadings appears behind, the courtyard between.
The field at left has been reaped, indicated by a number of straw bales; the light-coloured field at far right is a ripe corn field. All the other fields are currently fallow or in use as pastures.
In the distance at far right are the farm houses and barns of Bogend estate, to which Cairn's Mill then belonged.

  • This image is from my family's photo album.
  • The depicted persons are my sister, our mother, and myself (from left to right).
    This being the only, now almost 65-year old and thus undoubtedly historical, image of this vista that I possess, I refrain from deleting the persons as they occupy only a very small portion of the image and are also rendered far too grainy to be recognisable.
    CAVEAT: Should any doubts be raised as to whether depicting close family members is compatible with Wiki Commons' rules, I certainly have the means to eradicate any incriminated portions of this image without leaving a trace.
  • Historical facts: our family lived at Cairn's Mill from March 1955 till September 1967.
    My dad, the photographer, tended to the partially mechanised piggery business within the steadings and on the surrounding fields.
