This resolution was approved on February 25, 2021. |
Whereas, the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation passed a resolution on June 14, 2019, instructing the Foundation staff to accept and process donations and planned bequests earmarked for the Endowment, and remit the funds upon receipt to the Endowment care of the Endowment's host entity, until such a time as the Board passes a resolution changing the Endowment's structure to become a separate independent entity able to receive donations and planned bequests directly;
Whereas, the Foundation from time to time receives planned gifts that are not explicitly earmarked for Endowment or the annual fund;
Whereas, the Foundation defines planned gifts as gifts in wills, gifts of assets made by beneficiary designation, qualified charitable distributions from retirement assets, and other estate gifts.
Now, therefore, it is:
RESOLVED, that the Board instructs Foundation staff to remit all planned gifts to the Endowment, unless the donor has explicitly directed that the gift be used exclusively for the Foundation's annual operations or another restricted purpose.
