DescriptionNorthern shovelers spinning in Prospect Park.webm
English: Northern shovelers (Spatula clypeata) spinning in the Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn, NY. They do this, sometimes in pairs and sometimes in very large groups, to bring food up to the surface for them to skim. The males (drakes) have an iridescent green head, white breast, and chestnut belly/flanks; the females are brown overall.
