Legal:Editor Engagement Program Privacy Statement
Welcome to our Wikipedia editor engagement program! You have been selected to participate because you expressed an interest in learning how to edit Wikipedia. Through this program, we intend to provide you with helpful information on how to become an editor, and through your engagement, learn what resources are helpful in making editing easy and accessible.
This privacy statement describes the information that the Wikimedia Foundation collects from program participants, and the ways in which we use the information to help grow the editor community and support new editors.
What Information We Collect and How
We collect certain information about new editors who sign up for this program. This includes: user name, email address, language(s) in which you edit, and the number of edits made to the projects. This information is only collected when you are logged in to the Wikimedia projects. We do not collect information about the content of the edits you make, or the pages edited. This engagement program will conclude on May 31, 2018. At that time, we will stop collecting this information. If you wish to stop participating in the program prior to this date, you may contact us at ccogdill@wikimedia.org.
Through the information gathered in this program, we will learn which kinds of resources are most valuable to new editors: email tutorials, online mentors, or events. This research will enable us to make better choices about what kinds of educational content to produce and refine, to make editing more accessible to all.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
For the purpose of open analysis, research, and study, aggregate and anonymized data about editor engagement will be published on meta.wikimedia.org. The raw data collected in this program will be accessible to the Wikimedia Foundation staff who are administering this program, and who are subject to non-disclosure obligations. We may also share the collected data with select third-party service providers who assist in and enable our administration of the program. While we cannot ensure the privacy or security of services provided by third-party providers, we do our best to use contractual agreements and other mechanisms to do our best to help ensure that these service providers or contractors treat your information consistent with, and in a manner no less protective than, the principles of this privacy statement.
Additionally, we may disclose any collected information when required by law, when we have your permission, when needed to protect our rights, privacy, safety, users, or the general public, and when necessary to enforce our Terms of Use or any other Wikimedia policy.

Wikimedia understands the importance of user privacy. For this reason, we work to protect our users from the unauthorized disclosure or use of information we maintain. Raw data collected through this program will be aggregated or anonymized within 90 days following the conclusion of the program on June 30, 2018, with the exception of the total number of edits by each individual participant, which will be retained indefinitely.
