| The Approval of Endowment funding (Fiscal Year 2016-2017) and matching $5 million gift from Peter Baldwin and Lisbet Rausing approved by the Board of Trustees on June 16, 2017. |
Whereas, in December 2016, the Wikimedia Foundation announced that it would use a portion of the surplus funds raised beyond the goal of $63 million set forth in FY 2016-17 Annual Plan to support the Wikimedia Endowment; and
Whereas, Wikimedia Endowment Advisory Board member Peter Baldwin and Lisbet Rausing have agreed to match the Wikimedia Foundation’s FY 2016-17 contribution to the Wikimedia Endowment up to USD $5 million.
Now, therefore, it is:
Resolved, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees agrees to contribute $5 million in FY 2016-17 to the Wikimedia Endowment, which the generous gift from Peter Baldwin and Lisbet Rausing will match; and
Further Resolved, the Wikimedia Board of Trustees extends its sincere gratitude to Peter Baldwin and Lisbet Rausing for their long-standing support of the Wikimedia Foundation and the Wikimedia Endowment. Their gift to the Wikimedia Endowment will help the Wikimedia movement meet its vision of offering the world free access to the sum of all knowledge – in perpetuity. Thank you!
