Template talk:2008/Donate-questions

From Wikimedia Foundation Governance Wiki

Can someone explain why the page is transcluded the way it is (as a template parameter), rather than just plain? It messes up the page content such as image formatting, and generally seems to be likely to break. If there is no compelling reason, I'd prefer to keep as a plain transclusion without any template parameters. Thanks,--Eloquence 02:05, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, the image formatting issues seem to be related to the skin rather than the template. I understand from browsing around that the page= parameter is used to translate the page -- but is there any advantage in using a template-based system here at all, rather than just transcluding the full text of plain wiki pages? I did notice that wiki syntax inside a template parameter seems to be somewhat more prone to error; for example, when I added the "Donate now" links, the "|" character would sometimes break the entire page.--Eloquence 02:15, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
