About me
I've been an educator for more than a decade, at every level from middle school through graduate school, but mostly high school.
As a teacher, I taught English and Education. As a teacher-librarian, I taught information literacy.
I was a Walt Disney Teacher of the Year nominee, an American Library Association Emerging Leader, and one of the writers of the Model School Library Standards for California Public Schools, and have been on the cover of California Teacher magazine.
Msannakoval is my volunteer account on the Wikimedia projects. I'm not a very active editor, but I've got the bug and it's my goal to contribute more.
My work
I joined the Wikimedia Foundation as a Community Advocate, a position which I held from July 2013 through March 2014.
I was a manager of the Wikipedia Education Program, a position which I held from April 2014 through February 2016. Among other things, I was responsible for coordinating with the education programs in Eastern Europe and Asia, supporting the Education Program Extension, maintaining the Education Program portal, and collecting historical data about Wikimedia education programs worldwide.
I helped those who use Wikimedia projects in education nurture new editors, foster supporters, reach and teach students, and encourage creating and sharing free knowledge. I am proud to be a part of the largest encyclopedia in human history.
