Operations Engineer, Wikimedia Foundation
It turns out that an eerie type of chaos can lurk just behind a facade of order - and yet, deep inside the chaos lurks an even eerier type of order. -- Douglas Hofstadter

About me

I joined the Wikimedia Foundation's Operations team in April 2013, coming from a long background of Operations and Systems Engineering roles in the private sector at various corporations in the Technology, Financial, and Telecommunications industries over the past 20 years. In addition to my professional work, I'm also an Open Source software contributor. I'm the primary author of the Open Source authoritative DNS server gdnsd (which the Foundation now also uses), and have in the past been especially active in the Perl community and have made many patchwork contributions here and there around the Open Source world over the years.

My work

Here at the Foundation, I'm currently primarily focused on traffic engineering at the outer layers of our infrastructure where we interface with the broader Internet. This entails things like our geographic DNS routing, remote PoPs, TLS termination, content caching, and the routing of requests into the deeper parts of our software stack.

Disclaimer: I work for or provide services to the Wikimedia Foundation, and this is the account I try to use for edits or statements I make in that role. However, the Foundation does not vet all my activity, so edits, statements, or other contributions made by this account may not reflect the views of the Foundation.
