Can we employ a conflict counsel for the movement?

@LuisV (WMF):, et al: Some orgs have the idea of a 'conflict counsel' : someone on staff or on retainer (paid for by the organization) who is able to represent clients other than the organization, and keeps their work separate from that of the other legal staff.

For instance, they could represent students in cases where their interests might conflict with that of a school. Or staff in case their individual interests might conflict with that of the company. Or perhaps community members in a distributed global network. They are available to provide consultation. Of course this is not used frivolously, and is limited to situations considered important enough to warrant use of such a counsel.

Is this possible for the WMF or other affiliates to do? SJ talk  20:00, 29 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And if so: what would it cost? The peace of mind it would give risk-averse community members would be great, even before anyone makes use of such a service. SJ talk  20:28, 7 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think this would be fantastic! A possible collaboration with a like-minded organization. --Varnent (talk)(COI) 03:49, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
