Krenair

Why isn't he listed on the staff page? Maybe he is, but I can't find him. PiRSquared17 (talk) 21:52, 24 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

He's not listed currently. The criteria for when contractors get added to the staff page, are somewhat complex. I think it has something to do with both length and type of contract? (Some contractors are purposefully not listed, iirc). HR is in charge of all that, so if you want specific details, ask them. :) NWilson (WMF) (talk) 22:51, 24 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Possible impersonation/fake or simply in-expertise?

Hi Quiddity, on meta.wiki there's a new user that is trying to setup a user page in partly copying other users' data, and stating that they work for the WMF. Could you have a look, please? --M7 (talk) 11:55, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi @M7, thanks for the note. Searching the text used there, it's a direct copy of this other userpage (with minor tweaks). They are definitely not staff, as we are firmly told not to create our own staff account. They may just be a person trying to experiment with formatting? Please go ahead and ask them not to do so, or blank it, or block them if they are impersonating staff in discussions, etc, as you see fit. Thanks again. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 18:48, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
The only edits were those on the user page. I just left a note to the user in their talk, and removed almost anything. Cheers, --M7 (talk) 19:14, 15 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello again. The aforementioned user has reinstated some content on their own user page on meta, stating that they work for the WMF and displaying a @wikimedia.org e-mail address. Since I already removed some content leaving an explanation, I'd prefer to escalate this to the WMF itself, asking if you could kindly have a look and act, or have someone else with a valid WMF account to solve this. Thanks a lot, --M7 (talk) 07:47, 19 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Communicating a technical problem on wikimedia projects

Hi Quiddity (WMF), your userpage say you are a Senior Movement Communications Specialist, which I hope means helping people solve their communication problems.

I am a volunteer on the English Wikiquote and I have a problem which I do not know how to solve and need to communicate with someone who may be able to help me. It is a simple technical problem, but my inability to solve it is detracting from my ability t contribute to the sum of all knowledge.

Here it is: I have clicked Subscribe on several discussion-threads but Many times I do not get a notification when someone posts a reply, and when I happen to revisit these threads I often find out that my Subscribe has been turned off.

Can you tell me who I should ask? I am currently indef-blocked a enwp, sewp, and meta. I am in good standing, I hope, at enwq, so there should be a place where I can post a technical question, No?

Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 13:27, 12 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Sorry for the delay, I was out sick for a few days.
For technical problems, Phabricator (docs: mw:Phabricator) is the place to make bug-reports. Create a new task there, with the details of your problem, and add the "tag" of 'discussiontools'. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 00:30, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
WMF employees should not be allowedd sick leave, just kidding.
As far as the fabricator: I have looked at it once or twice, but the idea of having to learn how to navigate a totally new (to me) non-wiki social netsork is daunting. But thanks anyway for the suggestion, as persona non-grata on wmf-wikis, I don't have many options left, do I? Ottawahitech (talk) 16:15, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
just to embelish my previous post:
Those who have joined discussions at the Fabricator may have forgotten / do not realize the learning curve they went through. As one who has been around the block several times, on and off wiki, I don't like to spend any time learning something new that is also probably temporary. Take for example the version of Flow (if that is what is is) that is now being deprecated at Mediawiki and WD. I have not tallied the number of hours I spent learning how to use this version of flow, but I bet it took me a while to become semi-literate. Also, wasn't it a mistake to get such a large group of volunteers to participate in something that will not advance the sum of all human knowledge. IIRC I have not signed on to be a volunteer guinea pig. Ottawahitech (talk) 17:33, 13 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Proxy editing

Hi Quiddity (WMF): I have been accused of Roxy-editing many times since 2017, so am hesitant to report a glaring error I have recently observed on a fairly prominent Canadian-content article in the w:wp:main space. Can you think of a way I can communicate this problem to anyone?

Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 15:14, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I am not familiar with the best practices for this complex area, sorry. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 00:32, 23 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Where can a wiki-contributor get answers to technical questions?

Hi Quiddity (WMF),

I am sorry to have to bother you, yet again. I don't know where else to go ask questions. I do appreciate the fact that you are one of the few who will entertain questions from me.

I vaguely remember communicating with you (I am pretty sure it was you and not someone else) about the difficulty I was having trying to interpret the results of my xtools on WikiData. IIRC you were kind enough to open a bug report on another website on my behalf and told me where(?) you filed this feature request.

Today I was trying to find an old posting I made at WD years ago, and again could not find it in https://xtools.wmcloud.org/topedits/www.wikidata.org/Ottawahitech/1 and then I remembered I should check to see the status of the feature request, but... I don't remember where it is, so here is my dilemma:

  1. Should I spend half hour trying to figure out where yon itou filed this feature request?
  2. Should I just skip following up on it and keep on working on building content somewhere else?
  3. spend my half hour here trying to illustrate some communication problems that are faced by many wannabe contributors to all wmf-wikis

As you can see I chose option 3, hoping I will not be simply brushed off with a statement about how a wmf employee is not in position to do anything about my dilemma. I hope this wall of text will entice you to try to solve this dilemma.

Hi. (A) It's probably easier to search your onwiki contributions via the site's dedicated feature. E.g. Here are your Wikidata contribs, with the namespace selected as "Main - Invert" (so everything except the main namespace).
(B) Here is a search in Phabricator for your username. Hopefully that helps you find what you're looking for.

Thank you! your answer above is probably going to occupy me for the next couple of months. So far I just clicked the last link (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T120776) and found out that even though I was not aware of it I have virtually (I think?) participated in several topics/threads/bug requests (not sure what they callED on Fabricator).
I was surprised to see that T120776 which was a request for Tools for fly-by-night-editors to analyze silent reverts of edits the editor made themselveswas was initiated by me.
I had totally forgotten about this sigtgestion I made in 2015 on the META community-wish-list-survey, way beforeI was blocked on that wiki with the comment not here to contribute IIRC. I see that this suggestion got very little support on META, but was none the less added to Fabricator by @DannyH (WMF), and went through several iterations, I assume because no volunteer developers were interested in it (User:Andre Klapper (WMF) even added it to a request for an editathon in Jerusalem Israel).
Anyway, I am hopeful that even though it is now a ten-year-old suggestion some developer will finally take pity on it. Surprisingly, it is still an issue for me personally, even though it seems like few others think it isa problem. Ottawahitech (talk) 16:47, 15 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

"Please stop spamming my watchlist on the English Wikipedia."

Hi Quiddity (WMF),

I was just checking the Project Chat at Wikidata and saw the Please stop spamming comment posted at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Project_chat#Results. Does this mean that even experienced wikipedians have no clue how to manage their watchlists? Where would you direct them to if they had any questions about watchlists?
