Remarks section "Direct deposit"
Hi, I have some remarks about the direct deposit section on User:DavidStrauss/Fundraising and I do not know of I may change it, and even so, because it is a complex system of templates I prefer not do do it.
Remarks;
- the payment option "money transfer" is the option that is best for users from the European Union. The can make inside the European Union a money transfer to any other EU-account for the same price as a national transfer. In practice that means it is free or the cost is extremely low. And the WMF gets 100% of the money, no fees. People from outside the EU are more likely I think to use paypal
- I suggest to present this payment option more explicit as for the EU-visitors. Maybe a EU-flag also?
- The way the account number is presented is confusing. It must be listed as '
- IBAN BE43 0689 9999 9501 and
- BIC GKCCBEBB
To save space the spaces can be safely removed form the account number like
- IBAN BE43068999999501
- BIC GKCCBEBB
But keep those to together, do not put hem in a other section, also not the prefix IBAN, that must be before the account number to make it clear what it is.
Now also the normal national Belgian account number form is included. Like it is now listed it can give confusing. If listed it must be in an other section. The normal national Belgian account number is useful for people from Belgium, the can also use the IBAN number actually, but it is more easy to have the Belgian number. And for people from countries who do not support the IBAN bank transfer system. Because those people will need to pay normal fees for international transfers I do not think there will be a lot of people doing that. The will use paypal. It could be removed. If not presented separated from the IBAN-account information.--Walter 00:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- This is all contained in Template:Direct Deposit. Feel free to edit it. --David Strauss 05:15, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've made the requested changes. I'm not sure how we should present the "other" account number. Surely it has a real name of some sort. We can add a conditional for European languages to reorder the boxes, just as we select a default currency now. --David Strauss 05:24, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- I have also made some changes. But {{{direct_deposit_instructions}}} does not work. --Walter 16:35, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Fixed. This edit was the culprit. --David Strauss 21:42, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Fundraising pages
PayPal form now works. MoneyBookers form does not work yet; neither does my old version, which likely means MoneyBookers changed something. I went ahead and added a currency selector to your form; this will allow different translations to choose the most likely currency for readers of that language (Euro for German, for example). I also used an img link for the Wikimedia logo so people don't get lost after clicking the standard image. Oh, I also collapsed the project list into a line of text so it would minimize vertical scroll (the point of the fundraising page is to get people to the part where they can find info about donating). The way it was before, no part of the donation boxes were visible at 1024 x 768 resolution in the first screen. Other than then MoneyBookers form issue, I think this page is ready to go live once the drive starts. --Daniel Mayer 01:29, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. That takes several items off the agenda. --David Strauss 05:14, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- On second thought, I think we need to find some way to list the projects near the top of the page. I have to scroll to see them with your changes. --David Strauss 05:19, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree; that list is not very important compared to getting people to a part of the page where they can donate. If anything, the mention of 'Our projects' in the intro could be a jump link to the end. --mav

Oh, one more thing. MoneyBookers has an expanded list of supported currencies. We need to fix that, but a select list is at the old MoneyBookers template. Would be great if one of us could figure out a better way to have the select lists; the current system requires one list per currency per payment method, which sucks anytime new currencies are added. --Daniel Mayer 03:32, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- The currency lists need to stay separate for PayPal and Moneybookers because 1) they accept different currencies, and 2) even if they both accept a currency, it may not be in Wikimedia's best interest to accept such currency through both providers. PayPal, for example, allows two options for accepting currencies: directly and through an exchange done by PayPal to your account's preferred currency. PayPal allows you to maintain balances in multiple currencies to minimize exchange costs. So, if Wikimedia maintains a PayPal balance in a given currency, it may be cheaper to process it through PayPal instead of having Moneybookers exchange it for a different currency. I do know that if a currency needs to be exchanged, Moneybookers is better. I think we only list PayPal currencies for which Wikimedia maintains an actual balance. Regardless, this is a question for the office. --David Strauss 05:14, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, the lists need to be separate; that is my point. :) MoneyBookers accepts a lot more currencies than PayPal (as reflected in the select list on my own MoneyBookers form). We need to figure out a way to fix the current situation while allowing different translations to have their own currency selected by default. --mav
- I think the easiest way to fix the problem from how things are now is to split the currency list template into Moneybookers and PayPal versions. --David Strauss 15:50, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

the order of the boxes
Now it is 1) paypal 2) Moneybookers 3) check 4) money transfer. Can that order be changed depending independent by the language? Like for Dutch I think 1) Money transfer 2) Paypal 3) Moneybookers and 4) check makes a lot more sense. --Walter 00:14, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, anybody? --Walter 17:03, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- Rest assured, we're aware of this request. Other people are more experienced than I when it comes to conditionals in templates, but I'll try to make the change sometime this weekend. --David Strauss 21:35, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks --Walter 13:34, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
"donors list" opt-in
Can we modify them as opt-out? I am afraid at least among Japanese, opt-in default causes troubles ... --Aphaea 11:56, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Bad idea. We need to be safe with donor info such as names. The most safe option to have have donations be anonymous by default. --Daniel Mayer 18:08, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Bad idea? Currently the default option is "List my name". I agree with Aphaia and you that "List anonymously" should be the default option. --Walter 20:07, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Making name disclosure opt-out was directly requested by Brad. --David Strauss 11:11, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
Translation
Are you going to replace all existing fundraising pages with new versions? Or you have some ideas (about order, localization etc.)? I would like to know if you expect further coordination. Cheers, --Aphaea 16:29, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Right now, the priority is to finish the top 10 Wikipedia languages. Of course, we've been letting anyone interested translate to any language if they had the ambition. I'd like to see how many languages we can finish for the new fundraising page, at least in the short term. The new fundraising page is far easier for us to change site-wide, in case we need to update PayPal tracking settings or some other language-independent task. --David Strauss 21:56, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. Since we have other request to care, I decide to leave the page for a while with concentric efforts to invite editors. Instead I put a guidance how to make a translation. Would you please check it and correct, when you have a time? --Aphaea 04:49, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Fundraising page
Hi!
I'm trying to create similar looking page on our local chapter wiki: pl:chapter:Datki
I've moved some templates used by this page, but I see, it uses some MediaWiki magic to parse HTML code. Could you help me making it work on our page?
Thanks a lot --WarX 14:44, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Our templates require enabling unfiltered HTML in your MediaWiki settings. --David Strauss 23:23, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
